Stephen Callis MA (Counselling studies) MBACP(Accred.) UKRCP Registered Independent Counsellor/Pyschotherapist.

Stephen has been a therapist for over thirty years and has worked in hospital, GP surgeries and in private practice. He specialises in bereavement (having co-written a book on the subject - click here for details), Post Traumatic Stress, relationship issues, adult survivors of child sexual abuse and spiritual and pastoral therapy.

Although a Baptist Minister by training he does not seek to impose his own beliefs on others in the counselling setting, but rather seeks to work with theirs whether they be Christian, other religion or of no religion. In addition Stephen also counsels people with anxiety and depression. He does not work with people whose primary problem is addiction. Stephen does not feel he has the training or experience to work with children under the age of sixteen.

Although Stephen was originally trained as a psychodynamic therapist over the years he has made use of insights and techniques from many other counselling schools including transactional analysis and cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT)

If you have experienced another therapist, you may find that Stephen’s approach is different from what you are used to. Stephen tends to be more interactive than some other therapists. This may, or may not, suit you.

Your first session with Stephen will enable you to make an assessment as to whether you feel that you can work with him - (often clients like a little time to consider before getting back to him). If you were to continue in therapy with Stephen it is practice to have a short review every sixth session to ensure that you are still gaining from ongoing therapy.

Stephen has sessions Monday to Thursday morning and afternoons together with some weekday evenings. He does not see people at weekends.
